In what may have been the closest race in San Diego county, Dustin Trotter narrowly defeated his opponent for a seat on Santee’s city council.
After all the votes had been counted his opponent, Samm Hurst, had 3,915 votes to Trotters 3,920. Trotter was victorious by just 5 votes, out of nearly 8,000 total.
Likely propelling Trotter to the win was the support of The Republican Party of San Diego County. Trotter was endorsed by the party before the election, and especially in a highly republican area like Santee, their support is of great value to any candidate.
San Diego News Desk reached out to Trotter for a comment on his big win, and he had this to say,
“I would like to thank the voters of Santee for having faith in me and trusting me to lead the city in the right direction, I will not let them down. I’d also like to thank the party for all of their support throughout the election, this win wouldn’t have been possible without them. Starting on day one I will work to improve safety, economic prosperity, and social wellbeing for everyone in Santee.”
