Oceanside Mayor Peter Weiss is running for Oceanside City Council District 4 as the endorsed candidate of the Republican Party of San Diego County. He has over two decades of experience working in the public sector, which has given him the skills and experience needed to be a great public servant.
Weiss is an active member of the community in Oceanside. He and his wife have raised four children there and they have all attended El Camino High School. In the past few years, he has been involved in Boy Scouts and a variety of youth sports programs. He currently coaches in-line hockey and enjoys entertaining Oceanside residents as a musician at local venues.
Mr. Weiss attended the University of Pittsburgh in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. From there, he went on to become the city engineer for the city of oceanside from 1995 to 1999. After that, he worked his way up the ladder serving as a Public Works Director, City Manager, City Consulting Assistant, and now Mayor.
Besides the Republican Party, Weiss has several endorsements under his belt including the Oceanside Police Officers Association, the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce, San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond, former Oceanside Mayor Jim Wood, and former Oceanside Councilwoman Colleen O’Harra.
Weiss has several top priorities that he is working for now and will continue to focus on if elected to the Oceanside City Council this November. First on his list is fiscal responsibility. Peter believes that we need to maintain core services and manage our budget appropriately, especially considering the damaging effects that COVID has had on the city’s finances.
Next, Weiss is focused on economic recovery and growth. He would like to advance new business and development projects in order to create construction and permanent jobs, while also increasing the city’s tax base. Additionally, he would like to prioritize keeping small businesses strong and make it easier for new businesses to open their doors in Oceanside.
Lastly, Peter is focused on increasing housing availability in Oceanside. Housing shortages are an issue throughout California, and Oceanside is no exception. Weiss would like to create additional housing across all income levels so that people can live and work in Oceanside rather than commuting.
