SACRAMENTO – Senator Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) thanked the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) for awarding more than $4.5 million in COVID-19 homeless aid to the Counties of Orange and San Diego. The money will help fund homeless prevention, emergency shelters, street outreach, and more.
“COVID-19 has made homelessness more severe and it is critical that we do what we can to help those in need,” said Senator Bates, the Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee. “Thank you to the Department of Housing and Community Development for awarding Orange and San Diego Counties vital funding to help at-risk residents. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues at every level of government to ensure our region receives its share of state and federal funding.”
The money comes from the 2020 Emergency Solutions Grant Coronavirus(ESG-CV) program, which is funded by the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The County of Orange received $2,444,700 and the County of San Diego received $2,060,400.
