Candidate Profile: Caylin Frank for Poway City Council

Written by Julianne Foster

Caylin Frank is the Republican Party of San Diego County’s endorsed candidate for Poway City Council District 4.

Caylin is only 34-years-old, but she has been able to work hard and gain extensive experience, preparing her for success on the Poway City Council. In 2008, she graduated from the University of San Diego with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Government.

Since then she has interned in the U.S. House of Representatives for over two years and worked with the County of San Diego for over 11 years as Senior Policy Advisor for Bill Horn and Chair’s Assistant for Supervisor Greg Cox. Her work for Horn provided her with the experience in local government administration.

In 2018, she was unanimously appointed by the City Council to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Jim Cunningham. She spent five months on the Council before being officially elected in the November 2018 election. She is now running for re-election to build on the tremendous work she has played an integral role in.

“In the balance, Caylin Frank is the better choice for Poway,” explained Poway Votes in a 2018 endorsement piece. Frank supports keeping Poway on its current housing plan, understanding that low income housing is not the same as affordable housing, since low income housing mandates prevent housing supply and development, leaving the poor with fewer options. Compared to her opponents, Caylin demonstrably has better plans for the Poway community and the knowledge to make educated decisions in the best interest of residents.

Caylin’s experience and accomplishment are well understood, which is why she has been endorsed by the Deputy Sheriffs’ Association of San Diego County, Poway Firefighters Association, San Diego County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar, San Marcos Mayor Rebecca Jones, Poway Mayor Steve Vaus, Poway City Councilmen, John Mullin, Barry Leonard, and Dave Grosch, which means that the entire Poway City Council has officially endorsed Frank.
