Keith Blackburn is the Republican Party of San Diego County’s endorsed candidate for Carlsbad City Council District 2. His experience, leadership, and community involvement make him the clear choice to continue representing the district he loves so much.
Blackburn earned his bachelor’s degree in Personnel Management and master’s degree in Organizational Management, both from the University of Phoenix. He has lived in Carlsbad for 32 years, with his daughter being a graduate of Carlsbad High School. Blackburn spent 40 years of his life as a police officer, including 33 with the Carlsbad Police Department. He was a founding partner in the development of the Carlsbad Premium Outlets and Outlets at San Clemente, serves as a managing partner in a real estate group that owns and operates residential units, and is President of the nonprofit Blackburn Foundation.
Blackburn has countless accomplishments in his 12 years as a Carlsbad City Councilman, including laws against the sale of abused animals, the opening of several local businesses, expanding public recreation facilities, modernizing traffic signal technology, and improving access to clean water. He also served on numerous regional committee boards, including the Buena Vista Lagoon Joint Powers Committee, North County Dispatch Joint Powers Authority, San Diego County Water Authority, SANDAG Board of Directors, Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, and many more.
“As your councilman, I want to continue to support the revitalization of the Carlsbad Village as well as preserve open space and maintain our beaches for the enjoyment of future generations,” said Blackburn. “During our city’s continuing development and improvements, I will continue to use my business experience and public service background to maintain Carlsbad’s financial strength and security.”
Perhaps more impressive than his list of achievements in office is his work in the community. Blackburn has received the Champion of Children Award from the YMCA and Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad. He has also served as a volunteer at the Carlsbad Animal Shelter, Meals on Wheels, and Junior Achievement of San Diego County. His Blackburn Foundation has also awarded more than $1 million to community-based organizations and children’s groups.
Blackburn also donates his salary as City Councilman, putting it towards the causes he believes in most. “I will continue to donate my council salary to local non-profit organizations such as, The Mitchell Thorp Foundation, after school children’s programs, animal rescue organizations, and the Boys & Girls Club,” he explained.
These incredible contributions show not just the kind of candidate that Keith Blackburn is, but the incredible person he is. If you’re searching for a truly decent leader who puts the needs of community first, then look no further.
