SACRAMENTO – Senator Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) applauded the recent announcement that California’s program to help residents safely dispose of their unwanted medicines has been expanded throughout the state.
Thanks to a $3 million grant from the California Department of Health Care Services, an additional 320 drug disposal bins are now available in independent pharmacies, local law enforcement agencies, and in Albertsons stores across California. Residents can find a disposal bin near them at www.takebackdrugs.org, with many bins located in San Diego and Orange counties.
“The establishment of more places for Californians to safely dispose their unwanted medicines will help protect public health and hopefully save lives,” said Senator Bates. “I thank the California Department of Health Care Services and its partners for working to expand access to this vital program during these especially challenging times.”
The drug take-back program’s goal is to increase the disposal of unwanted medicines across California. It is funded by the California Department of Health Care Services and administered in partnership with the California Product Stewardship Council. Other partners of the program include Albertsons, Inmar, and the National Stewardship Action Council.
