On July 7, congressional candidate Darrell Issa visited the East County Advanced Water Treatment Project in Santee. The proposed project, if fully funded and built to completion, could one day supply up to 30 percent of East Country’s fresh water supply and would also cut water rates for residents in the district.
After viewing a one hour presentation, Issa toured the project’s working prototype. Upon returning to Congress next year, he is fully committed to securing the necessary federal funding to make sure this project is completed.
“This week I toured the East County Advanced Water Treatment Project in Santee,” said Issa. “In Congress, I’ll work to support their grant funding request to build the full-scale version of this demonstration project.”

Water shortages in California have become the norm in recent years, more as a result of government intervention and inefficiency than unusually dry weather. This Santee-based project serves as a promising opportunity to avoid the relentless government regulation that often prevents such innovation.
While Democrats remain committed to wielding government bureaucracy, Issa is focused on restoring power and autonomy back to localities wherever possible. The East County Advanced Water Treatment Project is one of many examples of Issa’s support for valuable innovation that will keep our communities prosperous in the years to come.
