Poway’s Independence Day fireworks celebration was a huge success. Two simultaneous fireworks shows enthralled viewers from across the city, while allowing citizens to safely enjoy them at a distance.
Despite many cities around San Diego County deciding to cancel their displays, Poway Mayor Steve Vaus believed that this uniquely American event deserved to go on. “The state has approved it, the fire department has approved it. We’re here to celebrate the nation’s birth,” explained Vaus.
The grammy-winning singer and guitarist turned mayor also performed ‘God Bless America’ for the city in the morning of July 4, setting a great tone for the rest of the day.
Always love singing this song – even more so on Independence Day. https://t.co/3OjLlTDpnH

Vista, El Cajon, and Santee also put on highly successful displays in celebration of our nation’s founding. The Republican leadership in these cities has stood up for patriotism and allowed our valuable traditions to carry on safely in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
We need unity now more than ever, and events like the Independence Day fireworks allow us to feel a sense of national pride that brings us closer together.
