Two days before the 4th of July, Jim DeBello sent an email out encouraging San Diegans to rally around his campaign for Congress and send a not-so-subtle note to Reps. Scott Peters, Nancy Pelosi, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez by providing them with copies of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution.
When asked about what inspired him, Jim said, “This time of year is when we are supposed to reflect on what our Founders did to ensure the United States of America would have a foundation of freedom that would outlast their lives,” he continued, “This 4th of July will be starkly different than any other I have celebrated in my lifetime and I want to remind these politicians of the oath they swore.”

It has been almost 250 years since the thirteen united States of America unanimously declared this to the people of America and started one of the greatest shifts towards individual freedom the world has ever seen. Our Founders held “these truths to be self-evident” and relied on “just Powers from the Consent of the Governed.”
Unfortunately, our elected officials today seem to be forgetting the fundamentals of what our Founders fought and died for. We find ourselves forced into our homes without consent, banned from our places of worship, and restricted from seeing our loved ones in their final moments.
I believe in our Constitution. I believe it was one of the greatest documents ever created. I believe elected officials like Reps. Scott Peters, Nancy Pelosi, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have forgotten the duty they swore to uphold.
This 4th of July, let’s remind them.
