Among the local leaders who have spoken out on the tragic death of George Floyd is Joe Leventhal, candidate for San Diego City Council District 5. He recently quoted his law firm, Dinsmore & Shohl, which spoke out on the terrible events that have played out over the recent weeks.

“Dinsmore unequivocally condemns police brutality, racism, bigotry, and prejudice in all forms,” the statement reads. “In our pursuit of justice as lawyers, we take personally that yet another senseless death has occurred, and that the inequities of our society have persisted.”
While many organizations and political leaders have paid vague lip service to the death of George Floyd and need for meaningful change, Leventhal’s law firm is taking a substantive position on the matter and committing to contributing to improving the legal system.
“We vow to vigorously defend against bigotry and oppression, to do our part to make a kinder, more equitable world, and to be a strong voice in the chorus demanding justice and peace for people of color,” the statement adds. “In the coming months, our firm leadership will develop an action plan that puts into practice these fundamental beliefs.”
Leventhal stands by these words and will continue to pursue equality for all as a leader in San Diego. We need our leaders to speak out on important societal issues now more than ever. Positive voices such as Leventhal’s are exactly what our community is looking for during these difficult times.
