SeaWorld Trainer Goes Public

The world’s eyes opened to the animal cruelty of SeaWorld when Blackfish was released in 2013. A new CBS Whistleblower show episode titled, “SeaWorld: The Case Against Captivity” is hosted by Alex Ferrer and goes into the details of the issue, focusing on John Hargrove, a long time critic of the SeaWorld franchise.

Two trainers from the San Diego SeaWorld location, Greg Stryker and Sharon Vietz, spoke out in the TV documentary series. Stryker said in the show, “If SeaWorld had a motto for its trainers, it would be: show up, suit up, shut up.”

Not only was there mistreatment of the animals in captivity, but mistreatment of the trainers as well. The series is in its second season and will air the SeaWorld episode on Friday at 8 p.m. local time.
