The County of San Diego is still encouraging residents to apply for the Independent Redistricting Commission.
They’re looking for impartial, involved citizens with excellent analyticals skills to help separate the county into districts this coming year. Those interested in politics but unsure of where to start should take advantage of this excellent opportunity to get involved and make a meaningful difference.
According to San Diego County: “The Commission will redraw the County’s supervisorial district lines to reflect the new numbers in the federal census which will assist in meeting community needs. This opportunity only comes once every 10 years—district lines can shape a community’s ability to elect the representative of their choice. Each supervisor should represent a diverse population of about 650,000 residents.”
Applications are due by July 31, 2020. To qualify, volunteers must be San Diego County residents who were registered to vote with the same political party or listed as no party preference for the past five years, and must have voted in at least one of the last three statewide elections. Additionally, they must not have been involved in any political circles for the past 10 years.
