On Thursday from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M., State Senator Brian Jones will join other local leaders in a blood donation event with the American Red Cross and Mossy Nissan. It will take place at Mossy Nissan parking lot at 1546 Auto Park Way, Escondido, California 92029.
The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically increased the need for blood donations for those who desperately need it. As medical facilities in the county and across the nation are struggling to deal with the coronavirus case load in addition to the normal patient load, supplies have become increasingly scarce. Things like surgical masks and ventilators are in short supply, as is available blood to transfuse to patients.
The goal of the event is to help with that blood shortage, assisting the medical community and patients who are currently fighting for their lives.
It’s worth noting that donating blood is considered an “essential” activity per Governor Newsom’s stay-at-home order, meaning that it’s exempted. Additionally, safe medical practices and social distancing will be in effect at the Bloodmobile site to mitigate any concerns of COVID-19 spread.
The event organizers are asking donors to schedule an appointment at this link, in order to ensure proper medical safety precautions are taken and that the donations can run smoothly.
