Carmelita “C.L.” Larrabaster is a candidate for the State Assembly District 79. Prior to her relocating to San Diego in 1986, she was a U.S. Military Contract overseas. She is a legal immigrant, with American, Spanish, Basque, and Filipino heritage. She speaks English, Filipino, Spanish, Chabacano, Ilongo, Cebuano, and Tagalog.
As a working mother, she brought up her three children who are now assets to the community. Being born and raised Roman Catholic, she is a Lector/Reader at Masses at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church and a Eucharistic Minister.
Having obtained her Real Estate License, and Broker’s license, she founded a real estate office which eventually became four offices with 200 agents, in four locations across San Diego County. To service her agents and clients, she set up a Mortgage Corporation, an Escrow Office, and a School for Real Estate.
She served as a Commissioner for the City of Chula Vista for eight years and volunteered for charitable organizations such as St. Vincent de Paul, Salvation Army, Rady’s Children Hospital, Project Mercy building houses in Mexico, Habitat for Humanity (Global), Gawad Kalinga, YMCA etc. In recognition of her volunteerism, she was awarded The Rotarian of the Year 2013-14. She was also named Businesswoman of the Year by the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce, and Businesswoman of the year by the Filipino American Chamber of San Diego County.
When asked why she is running for the State Assembly, her reply is because she believes in the Supreme Being, in the Constitution of the United Sates, and Traditional Family Values. When asked what she would do as a member of the California State Assembly, she said she will fight for Commerce and Industry, to open up opportunities for employment, which would alleviate the unemployment issue and homelessness. She supports an expedient process for legal immigration for those with NO criminal records.
As a businesswoman, she fully understands the burden of high taxes on the public. As a Realtor since 1990, she will certainly fight for affordable housing. When asked what she would like to ask of the readers, without hesitation, she replied, PRAYERS, and that everyone work together in peace to keep democracy in this country.
