SACRAMENTO – Senator Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) has announced that the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) has awarded $310,000 to the City of Carlsbad to help create more housing supply.
“I am pleased that the California Department of Housing and Community Development has awarded Carlsbad a grant to encourage more housing production,” said Senator Bates, a member of the Senate Housing Committee. “The difficulty of finding affordable housing is a major challenge for many Californians, especially for those living in San Diego and Orange counties. I will continue to do what I can to ensure every community receives its fair share of resources from state housing programs.”
Funding for the state grant comes from the SB 2 (2017) Planning Grants Program. The program’s purpose is to provide funding and technical assistance to local governments to help them implement plans that streamline housing approvals and accelerate housing production. The grant will help Carlsbad examine the rezoning of available parcels, create objective design standards for multi-family housing projects, develop applicable Municipal Code regulations, and conduct other activities as allowed under the law.
