District 7 City Councilman Scott Sherman today endorsed Joe Leventhal for City Council, citing his “platform of bold leadership”
(San Diego, CA) – San Diego City Councilman Scott Sherman today announced his endorsement of Joe Leventhal in the race for San Diego City Council, District 5.
“Joe Leventhal is a hardworking, engaging candidate that will serve the City of San Diego well,” said Sherman. “I wholeheartedly support Joe’s platform of bold leadership to tackle San Diego’s challenges, and believe that he will build upon the progress we have made on the City Council. Joe has my complete endorsement.”
Scott Sherman was elected to the San Diego City Council in 2012 and was re-elected in 2016. On the City Council, Scott has prioritized enhanced government accountability and fiscal responsibility as Chair of the Audit Committee.

Joe has already been endorsed by San Diego City Councilman Mark Kersey, retired San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman, homeless advocate Father Joe Carroll, San Diego County Board of Education Vice President Mark Powell, San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond, San Diego County Supervisor Dianne Jacob, the San Diego Asian Americans for Equality, and the Associated Builders and Contractors of San Diego, among others.
Once elected to the San Diego City Council, Joe will prioritize solutions to reduce homelessness, enhance public safety, and expand road repairs. Joe believes that bold, collaborative leadership, as he’s demonstrated throughout his life, is the best way to approach San Diego’s persistent challenges.
The 5th District includes the communities of Black Mountain Ranch, Carmel Mountain Ranch, Miramar Ranch North, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Encantada, Rancho Peñasquitos, Sabre Springs, San Pasqual, Scripps Miramar Ranch and Torrey Highlands. The District’s registration is nearly evenly split between Republicans, Independents, and Democrats.
