Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez over the weekend received much-needed criticism for her most recent travesty of a bill—AB 5. This bill effectively looked to cut the source of income for many workers in California and even hurt free speech by limiting freelance writers’ ability to work.
In uncanny behavior, from an elected official, the Assemblywoman attacked dissenters of the bill (journalists) on Twitter using foul language and aggression to disagree with them. When her assault was not enough, her spouse, County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher, attacked the dissenters as well.

After being met with criticism about a poorly written bill, Lorena Gonzalez and her spouse chose instead of discussion to attack the disagreement, allowing for no constructive criticism. Gonzalez then went on to argue this was to empower her close ties to unions.
Freelancers can write however much they want-but should we let , say the LA Times hire as many freelancers as they want to bust their union or weaken their great new contract or keep folks from organizing. Freelancing can hurt staff jobs.

Gonzalez’s bill looked to back only unions, and when it came to hurting the citizens—and their free speech—that Lorena Gonzalez and Nathan Fletcher represent, they chose to attack them further. A lot can be said with how a person handles criticism, and this was shown with Lorena and her spouse’s detestable actions on Twitter.
