Todd Gloria Drafts Assembly Joint Resolution for Green New Deal

Assemblyman Todd Gloria, also a candidate for San Diego Mayor, has drafted an Assembly Joint Resolution for California to support a national “Green New Deal.”

The Green New Deal is a national legislative proposal focusing on climate change and economic inequality, which has been heavily promoted by extreme leftists such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA).

The resolution states, “This measure would encourage the United States Congress to adopt climate policies, including those that might be adopted under the Green New Deal, that build upon California’s programs that have reduced greenhouse gas emissions while improving air and water quality, create new green jobs, and improved disadvantaged communities and that just climate actions offer the nation an opportunity to achieve community-mindful policies that California has successfully adopting while growing its economy.”

Gloria said to the State Assembly, “Climate changes is a global emergency and an existential threat, and we have to treat it that way … AJR 7 would signal California’s support for the policies found in the Green New Deal – much of which California’s already leading the way on.”

Gloria’s resolution passed 47 to 14, but it has no binding mechanism, which means that no policy change is actually enacted by the resolution. For all intents and purposes, it’s a chance for Democrats to applaud themselves for voicing support for a policy without dealing with the consequences of its implementation.

Gloria’s far-left tendencies suggest that he has no purpose having the position of San Diego Mayor.
