New American Citizens Officially Naturalized at Petco Park

At the end of August, 50 new citizens were naturalized by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey T. Miller in the outfield at Petco Park before a San Diego Padres game.

These high profile ceremonies are “part of the federal court’s educational outreach to highlight Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, September 17, the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution and a day that celebrates native-born and naturalized citizens,” according to officials.

After Judge Miller administered the Oath of Allegiance, the new citizens celebrated with family and friends in the Park Boulevard Plaza.

Similar ceremonies are playing out at baseball stadiums throughout the country, including the fields of the Cincinnati Reds, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, Philadelphia Phillies, St Louis Cardinals, and Tampa Bay Rays.

It’s a great way to welcome new citizens as full members of our great nation, with baseball stadiums in particular exhibiting a renowned aspect of American culture.
