UC San Diego is being acknowledged as the ninth-best-valued school, according to Money Magazine. The magazine showcased schools that provide a good education without putting students in immense student debt. The campus was also ranked as the sixth-best public college and the twenty-eighth in the list of most transformational schools.
Schools were judged on multiple components within three groups: condition, pricing, and student outcomes. Some of the factors being considered included the graduation quota, the amount of Pell Grant beneficiaries, costs of attendance, alumni salaries, and the federal College Scorecard.
Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla said, “UC San Diego is dedicated to opening doors for students of all backgrounds to pursue diverse fields of study and build careers that affect change.” UCSD’s newest students, including first-year students and transfer students, are a prime example of the developing diversity on the campus. The majority of them are also first-generation college students.
The new students also have a large number of resources to help with academic and personal success. They have a Summer Bridge program that is run by the Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services (OASIS). Through the program, new students are encouraged to stay on campus the summer before their fall semester to acclimate themselves to the campus and college lifestyle.
The undergraduates are given many opportunities that can set them apart as contenders for employment, graduate school, and other programs. UCSD also offers Academic Enrichment Programs, where undergraduates can research with the help of faculty to display their novelty ideas at meetings all over the country.
UCSD is an Ashoka-designated Changemaker Campus, where students are refined towards being analytical scholars who will function better in the workforce. Graduates are influenced to give back, and lots of them go on to work on projects that are helping the San Diego community.
UC San Diego does not only have the acknowledgment from Money Magazine, but has also been given the title of 11th best public university from CNBC—with Forbes ranking it 13th for America’s Best Value Colleges.
