SAN DIEGO, CA — Former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, candidate for San Diego County Supervisor, announces the endorsement of the San Diego Police Officers Association. This endorsement is the latest sign of momentum for the former Mayor, who has made public safety a top issue in the race against incumbentTerra Lawson-Remer. Prior to this endorsement, Faulconer secured the support of the San Diego Deputy District Attorneys Association.
Incorporated in 1953 to assist San Diego police officers in issues related to wages, hours, and working conditions, the San Diego Police Officers Association (SDPOA) ensures officers receive due process and educate the community about the challenges faced by police departments and their officers. The SDPOA also aids members and their families in sickness, distress, and death, and strives to improve social relations and welfare among the members.
“Kevin Faulconer has been a stalwart supporter of our men and women in blue. That’s why we’re supporting him to be our next County Supervisor,” said Jared Wilson, President of the San Diego Police Officers Association. “When other cities around the state looked to defund the police, Kevin stood up to these radical groups and instead gave us the tools necessary to help us be successful in protecting every day San Diegans. That’s the kind of leader we all need at the county level – that’s why we’re strongly backing him to be our next Supervisor.”
“Too often we see elected officials like Terra Lawson-Remer cozy up to the type of groups that are friendly to the defund the police movement,” said former Mayor Kevin Faulconer, candidate for Supervisor. “Just last year, she held a fundraiser with a Hollywood celebrity that supports the idea of taking away police funding and that’s wrong. When I was Mayor, we funded the police at record levels because it was the right thing to do. Even as protestors around my house demanded that I defund the police, I didn’t cave in. I stood up to these extreme activists and gave our police the tools and resources necessary for them to keep us the safest big city in the country. As Supervisor, I will continue to support our men and women who put their lives on the line so that we can rest easy at night.”
As Mayor of San Diego, Faulconer worked tirelessly to provide the tools and resources necessary to support the San Diego Police Department. Under his tenure, the City of San Diego approved the most sweeping recruitment and retention program in the City’s history. And by the end of his tenure, the San Diego Police Department reached a 10-year high in staffing levels, fulfilling a key promise Mayor Faulconer had made to the community when he took office.
Since entering the race in July of 2023, Faulconer has outraised Terra Lawson-Remer, garnering support from local donors and attracted a growing number of endorsements from local organizations, including the San Diego Deputy District Attorneys Association, The San Diego Farm Bureau, San Diego Working Waterfront, The Lincoln Club Business League, San Diego Restaurant Association, Building Industry Association, Associated General Contractors of San Diego, and Associated Builders and Contractors of San Diego. As Supervisor, he’ll lead on pressing issues like reducing homelessness on day one – working to clean up the streets and get people the help they need to turn their lives around, just as he did as Mayor of San Diego, where he presided over double-digit decreases in homelessness.
