Governor Gavin Newsom castigated the Senate Majority Leader for not putting gun control legislation to a vote. “Mitch McConnell is a coward. He’s abdicated leadership,” he said.
On Monday, Newsom met with various officials seeking to blame Republicans and urge Congress to pass a California-style law requiring universal background checks—one of the strictest gun control regulations in the nation.
Far from what Newsom wants the public to think, McConnell has already said that gun safety measures, specifically background checks, will be discussed after Congress reconvenes.
President Trump has also confirmed that congressional leaders have been having “serious discussions” on background checks.
In a couple of tweets, Trump explained his position on the issue of gun safety and gun rights.
Now if only Newsom had a modicum of common sense when it comes to working in a bipartisan way, rather than just seeking the media spotlight by spitting at our country’s leaders, California would be in a much better place.
