Trump Champions the Special Olympics

Recently we saw the civility and just actions of President Donald Trump when it came to the athletes involved in the Special Olympics.

A new proposed budget for education was set to cut $7 billion dollars and $17.6 million of that was to be used for the Special Olympics. If this cut was to go through the Special Olympics was looking at a ten percent cut to their budget.

The Special Olympics with the power of sports, helps people with intellectual disabilities discover new strengths and abilities, skills and success. Their athletes set forth to inspire people in their communities and elsewhere to open their hearts to a wider world of human talents and potential.

President Trump after listening to his constituents sought to right this by promising the continued funding of the Special Olympics in his budget. The President stated that he had “Overridden my people”  and saved the Special Olympics.

Betsy Devos and President Trump were both in agreement that was what should’ve been done. Both are happy with the President’s decision to continue the funding set for the Special Olympics.

The White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders said there is no tension between the two. “President Donald J. Trump considers Secretary DeVos a personal friend and appreciates and respects the incredible job she is doing for students across the country, at an agency that was once so badly mismanaged under the Obama administration,” said Sarah Sanders.

The Trump administration has made great strides in fixing the problems left from the Obama administration in the Education Department. This is one achievement not mirrored by the leadership in New York who cut their Special Olympic by 25 percent in the 2019 budget.
