Supervisor Anderson Announces Board Action to Unite Veterans & Military Service Members With Their Loved Ones Ahead of Veterans Day

(SAN DIEGO — October 6, 2023) Supervisor Anderson is hosting a press conference on Tuesday, November 7 to preview his board action that will be voted upon at that day’s Board of Supervisors meeting.

Anderson’s proposal would create a pilot program at the County to help qualified veterans and military service members reunite with their families through the Federal government’s Military Parole in Place (MIL-PIP) program. Through the MIL-PIP program, spouses, parents, and children of veterans and active military service members can gain temporary permission to live in the United States while they work towards permanent citizenship.

“This Veterans Day, I wanted to celebrate and thank those who have served, or are serving, by uniting them with their loved ones. These heroes have put their lives on the line for our country and the least we can do is connect them with their families— who are on a path to citizenship,” shared Supervisor Joel Anderson.

“San Diego Unified School District serves more than 7,500 students who are in active military families and we appreciate and support Supervisor Anderson’s efforts to provide assistance to the families of our students,” shared Richard Barrera of the San Diego Unified School District Board of Trustees.
