Local Leaders to Call For Border Shutdown in Light of National Security Risk in San Diego County

WHAT:            In light of recent national security threats, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection alerting officers that Hamas, & Hezbollah may be encountered at the U.S. southern border and Border Patrol agents apprehending 169 terror watchlist individuals, local leaders will be calling for a closure of the Southern Border. This is on top of over 23,400 migrants dropped in our community by Border Agents within the past six weeks.

WHEN:            Thursday, October 26th @ 9:00am

WHERE:         County Operations Center- (Plaza)

5520 Overland Ave, San Diego, CA 92123

WHO:              San Diego County, Supervisor Jim Desmond

El Cajon Mayor, Bill Wells

Community Leader, Amy Reichert

Community Leader, Margarita Wilkinson

WHY:            In September, there were 269,735 migrant encounters at the southern border, making it the highest single month ever recorded. For the fiscal year 2023, Border Patrols have reported 2.47 million encounters, marking the highest annual total ever recorded in a single year. Given mounting national security concerns, the current unsustainable border policies are threatening our community’s and nation’s safety. We must immediately shut down the border to new immigrants, secure it, and restore order.
