(Del Mar, Calif.) – Margarita Wilkinson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Entravision Communications, which owns and operates Univision San Diego and broadcast affiliates in Tijuana, announces her candidacy for California’s 49th Congressional District.
Wilkinson, a lifelong Republican, spent 32 years at Entravision, and is a civic and philanthropic leader, serving on the boards of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, Old Globe Theater, and Lincoln Club of San Diego, and previously serving on the boards of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Red Cross, San Diego Symphony, and ONE San Diego. |
“For the last thirteen years, I’ve served as the eyes and ears of my community working in media and with local non-profits that lift people up,” said Wilkinson. “Californians are struggling to make ends meet and many feel voiceless in Washington.”
“Over the last five years, inflation has increased 44%, gas prices are up 85%, a 38% increase in the mortgage interest rate is just a small piece of the 39% increase in housing costs, while homelessness is up 21%, and immigration enforcement actions have skyrocketed 404%,” continued Wilkinson. “In every measurable way, things are getting worse, and I am running for Congress to put my focus on the real issues impacting the lives of the people who live and work in the 49th District.” “Our national debt now stands at $33 trillion – a $10 trillion increase in the last five years and more than $100,000 for every man, woman, and child in America. Only 39% of Americans approve of President Biden’s performance, and yet Congressman Mike Levin has voted with him 100% of the time. He is not focused on the challenges facing our communities and that’s why I’m running,” said Wilkinson. |
Margarita has been endorsed by San Marcos Mayor Rebecca Jones, former San Diego County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar, former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, and former San Diego council members Chris Cate and Scott Sherman.
Margarita was born to a teenage mother in Mexico City, before moving to El Paso, Texas to attend American public schools. She became fluent in English and was accepted to the University of Texas, El Paso (UTEP), graduating with a degree in Special Education. Margarita took a staff assistant position at the local Univision affiliate while working her way through college and rose to become the youngest station manager in company history at age 32. It was during this time that she became an American citizen, the proudest day of her life. In 2009, she was named Senior Vice President and General Manager Entravision in San Diego and Tijuana. Margarita and her husband, Philip, live in Del Mar and share four children. ### For more information, contact Jason Roe @ 202-374-2424 or jcroe@roestrategic.com. |
