SACRAMENTO\u00a0–\u00a0Senate Minority Leader Brian W. Jones<\/a>\u00a0(R-San Diego) issued the following statement on Senator Mike McGuire\u00a0(D-Healdsburg)\u00a0being elected today as the next Senate President Pro Tempore:<\/p>\n

\u201cCongratulations to Senator Mike McGuire on his election as the next Senate President Pro Tempore. Even before both of us were in leadership, Mike and I had a long and positive history of working together to better California. I deeply appreciate his respect for differing viewpoints. He has shown a willingness to work in a bipartisan manner and we are excited to continue this cooperation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also want to thank Pro Tem Atkins for her service to the state of California. It has been an honor to serve alongside a fellow San Diegan and lead the Senate together. Pro Tem Atkins was presented with especially unique challenges, but she rose to the occasion multiple times. We thank her for her partnership over the years.<\/p>\n
