In a disappointing turn of events for California drivers, gas taxes are set to rise yet again, thanks to the passage of a $311 billion budget by Democrat lawmakers. This latest tax hike, estimated to cost drivers nearly $600 million, only exacerbates the already burdensome cost of living in the state. Fortunately, Senate Minority Leader Brian W. Jones (R-California’s 40th Senate District) has been a strong advocate for the people, introducing bills and tirelessly fighting to suspend the gas tax and alleviate the financial strain on hardworking families.<\/p>\n

Senator Jones’s unwavering dedication to reducing the cost of living is evident in his introduction of SB 1X1 and SB 32, which aimed to suspend the gas tax and immediately cut prices by $1. Recognizing the detrimental impact of heavy taxes and regulations on families statewide, Senator Jones took proactive measures to address the issue head-on. Unfortunately, despite the bipartisan support for suspending the gas tax across the country and President Biden’s endorsement of such actions, Democrat lawmakers in California refused to pass Senator Jones’s bills, opting instead to impose another tax increase on struggling residents.<\/p>\n

The fact that several Democrat and Republican-led states have successfully suspended their gas tax highlights the urgent need for relief in California. Senator Jones’s efforts to bring about this relief align with the sentiments of millions of overly taxed Californians who are desperately seeking respite from the ever-increasing financial burdens imposed upon them.<\/p>\n

As a true champion of the people, Senator Jones remains undeterred in his fight to eliminate the gas tax and provide immediate relief at the pump. Can you believe it? As if gas weren\u2019t expensive enough, Democrat lawmakers passed a $311 billion budget that includes a\u00a0gas tax hike<\/a>! This tax increase will cost drivers almost $600 million at the pump.<\/p>\n

There is no doubt that the cost of living is too high in California. The policy of heavy taxes and regulations are placing undue burdens on families across the state. That is why I introduced\u00a0SB 1X1<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0SB 32<\/a>\u00a0to suspend the gas tax and cut prices by $1 immediately. Unfortunately, Democrat lawmakers\u00a0refused to pass my bills<\/a>\u00a0and moved forward with a gas tax increase instead.<\/p>\n

Suspending the gas tax has bipartisan support across the country. Several Democrat and Republican states have suspended their gas tax. Last year, President Biden announced his support for states to suspend their gas tax. California is behind the nation in bringing relief to overly taxed Californians.<\/p>\n

I will keep fighting to eliminate the gas tax and deliver relief at the pump.<\/p>\n
