    Foster Care Month<\/h2>\n

    \"\"<\/p>\n

    Today, I had the honor of kicking off National Foster Care Month alongside Shane Harris, a former foster youth and President of the Peoples Association of Justice Advocates (PAJA). National Foster Care Month is an opportunity to raise awareness about the needs of foster care children and recognize the contributions of foster parents, social workers, and advocates who work to improve the lives of these vulnerable children.<\/p>\n

    Every child deserves to grow up in a safe, loving, and nurturing environment. This month provides an opportunity for individuals, organizations, and communities to get involved and make a difference in the lives of foster children. We can all take action by becoming foster parents, volunteering, or supporting organizations that provide critical services to foster families and children.<\/p>\n

    Today, we declared May 1st FOSTER CARE MONTH throughout San Diego County. We celebrate the invaluable contribution of foster parents, social workers, and organizations like PAJA, who work tirelessly to improve the lives of foster children.<\/p>\n

    Homelessness in San Diego<\/h2>\n

    Last week,\u00a0I talked about the problems with homelessness in California<\/a>\u00a0and the failing Housing First method.<\/p>\n

    Now the City of San Diego is doubling down on this method by spending $383,000 per room to house the homeless. As we’ve seen over the years, throwing money at the problem will not solve the issue. Without treatment, the cycle will continue.<\/p>\n

    Rural Disaster Home Repair Grant<\/h2>\n

    I want to inform you about a\u00a0significant opportunity that may benefit homeowners in the rural areas<\/a>\u00a0of the county who have experienced damages from the winter storms between December 27, 2022, and January 31, 2023. The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Disaster Home Repair Grant can fund home repairs for impacts in rural areas up to $40,675.<\/p>\n

    \"\"<\/p>\n

    The Rural Disaster Home Repair Grant has $55.7 million available nationwide until the grant funds run out. Therefore, homeowners are encouraged to apply as soon as possible since these funds are expected to run out fast.<\/p>\n

    Applicants must also be eligible within low-income limits relative to county and family size. Therefore, please check the\u00a0Property Eligibility Map<\/a>\u00a0to see if your address is in an eligible area. To proceed, click “Accept” below the Property Eligibility Disclaimer.
