However, this move has raised concerns about the legitimacy of the election and its impact on the district&#8217;s parents and students. The right to vote is reserved for law-abiding American citizens, and allowing illegal immigrants to participate in an election undermines the democratic process.<\/p>\n<p>The California Constitution recognizes the people&#8217;s right to self-governance, which includes making laws. Article II, section 2 of the Constitution enfranchises 18-year-old US citizens and California residents.<\/p>\n<p>Granting the right to vote to non-citizens brings down the legitimacy of the election overall. The right to vote is a fundamental aspect of American citizenship, and granting this right to illegal immigrants undermines this fundamental value.<\/p>\n<p>While the California Constitution does not prohibit a law that enfranchises illegal immigrants, allowing illegal immigrants to vote in school board elections brings down the legitimacy of the election overall.
