Jones will promote his bipartisan measure\u00a0Senate Bill 31<\/a>, which prohibits homeless encampments near the sensitive community areas of schools, daycare centers, parks, and libraries. Additionally, the bill requires enforcement officers to give a 72-hour notice before a sweep, and requires enforcement officers to provide information about sleeping alternatives, homeless and mental health services, and homeless shelters. Over 2,000 Californians have signed\u00a0a petition<\/a>\u00a0in support of SB 31.<\/p>\n

The measure is up for hearing in the\u00a0California Senate Public Safety Committee<\/a>\u00a0following the press conference at 9:30am in the Swing Space Building, 1021 O Street, Room 2200.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/p>\n

California has 30% of the nation\u2019s homeless population yet only makes up less than 12% of the U.S. total population. Sadly, California\u2019s homelessness crisis has become a public health and safety crisis. Modeled after a recent\u00a0measure<\/a>\u00a0passed by the City of Los Angeles, Leader Jones\u2019s bipartisan bill will help compassionately clear encampments and help connect homeless individuals to services they desperately need. SB 31 specifically protects sensitive community areas closest to our most vulnerable population\u2014our children who go to schools and daycare centers, play in parks, and read books at libraries.<\/p>\n
