Republican leaders reference media reports detailing Newsom\u2019s million dollar ties with the SVB and his direct involvement in pushing federal regulators<\/em><\/p>\n

SACRAMENTO\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Senate Minority Leader Brian W. Jones<\/a>\u00a0(R-San Diego) and\u00a0Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher<\/a>\u00a0(R-Yuba City) today issued a joint statement concerning Governor Newsom\u2019s financial ties with Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) and his involvement with securing a bailout for the failed bank:<\/p>\n

\u201cFor three days now the media has been reporting story after story of Governor Newsom\u2019s personal, family, and business ties with the Silicon Valley Bank.\u00a0The\u00a0San Francisco Chronicle<\/a>,\u00a0California Globe<\/a>,\u00a0Business Insider<\/a>,\u00a0Newsweek<\/a>\u00a0and others have all detailed that the Newsom family business empire and associated non-profits are deeply twined with the SVB.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs chief executive officer of the State of California, the Governor is prohibited from taking administrative or other actions that could benefit his own financial circumstance.\u00a0Simply putting all your assets in a blind trust a few years ago does not allow Governor Newsom to intercede in a bailout of a bank that he knew he and his family had extensive dealings with.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s the potential for conflict of interest, and the actual perception of conflict of interest \u2013 we think the Governor\u2019s action in the SVB matter crossed the line into both areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe call upon Governor Newsom to recuse himself and turn over any further state dealings with the SVB bailout to the Lt. Governor.\u00a0We also encourage Governor Newsom to voluntarily ask that the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) and\/or the State Attorney General review the matter to see if any violations of the law actually occurred.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
