\nSan Diego, CA\u00a0<\/b>– ReOpen San Diego will be hosting a press conference on Thursday, March 2 at 12 noon at Miramar College to protest the proposed firing of faculty and staff members at the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) Board of Trustees Meeting. The SDCCD employees\u00a0are facing termination due to the vaccine mandate imposed by the district.\u00a0See San Diego Union-Tribune coverage here.<\/a><\/p>\n

The press conference will feature El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells and several faculty members who are slated to lose their jobs or who have already lost their jobs over the vaccine mandate. The faculty will share their personal stories and perspectives on how the mandate has affected them and their families.<\/p>\n

“We stand with the faculty members who have been terminated and facing termination over the vaccine mandate imposed by the SDCCD,” said Amy Reichert co-founder of ReOpen San Diego. “The vaccine mandate is a violation of Title Vll of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. No one should be forced to choose between their livelihood and their personal health choices and firmly held religious beliefs.”<\/i><\/p>\n

“In light of the California Covid-19 State of Emergency ending February 28 and the lifting of the student vaccine mandate at San Diego Community Colleges in 2021, we urge the SDCCD Board of Trustees to reconsider this mandate and find alternative solutions that will not result in the termination of dedicated faculty members,”
