There\u2019s a growing movement to ban new homes from having any gas at all"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The original story can be read<a href=\"https:\/\/www.capoliticalreview.com\/capoliticalnewsandviews\/forget-stoves-theres-a-growing-movement-to-ban-new-homes-from-having-any-gas-at-all\/\">\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>By\u00a0<span class=\"author vcard\"><span class=\"fn\">Stephen Frank<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>Last summer, due to the Newsom\/Democrat policy of limiting availability of energy, I was forced to buy a very expensive generator.\u00a0 When Newsom cuts off the energy, my generator automatically turns on and keeps my electricity going.\u00a0 How does it work?\u00a0 When the Democrat policy on energy causes a blackout, my generator using NATURAL GAS turns on, and saves the day.<\/p>\n<p>Under his proposals to get rid of all fossil fuel, including natural gas, my generator is worthless and Simi Valley is no better than a Third World city.\u00a0 Oh, thanks to his refusing to allow the growth of natural gas storage facilities the cost of natural gas, since this summer, has doubled and tripled in all parts of California.\u00a0 He has caused inflation and poverty.<\/p>\n<p>Then once natural gas is outlawed\u2014as he has outlawed coal and nuclear, every homeowner will have to spend tens of thousands of dollars to restructure their home to become all electricity.\u00a0 That will immediately devalue all homes and commercial properties in the State\u2014tens of billions of value will go down the drain\u2014and property tax values will tank, while foreclosures will skyrocket.<\/p>\n<p>If I wanted to kill off California, I would follow Newsom\/Democrats energy policies.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizpacreview.com\/2023\/02\/12\/forget-stoves-theres-a-growing-movement-to-ban-new-homes-from-having-any-gas-at-all-1332418\/\">Forget stoves! state\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizpacreview.com\/2023\/02\/12\/forget-stoves-theres-a-growing-movement-to-ban-new-homes-from-having-any-gas-at-all-1332418\/\"><strong>energy<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0code to \u201cmitigate the impact of climate change,\u201d which could be used to justify a natural gas ban, according to the Minnesota think-tank Center of the American Experiment.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cAny push to ban natural gas would raise costs to consumers, jeopardize environmental progress and deny affordable energy to underserved populations,\u201d Karen Harbert, president and CEO of the American Gas Association, told the DCNF.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A growing number of states and cities are considering or implementing bans for the future construction of not just gas stoves, but natural gas hookups themselves, a move that would raise costs for consumers and potentially have negative environmental consequences, natural gas advocates told the Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers in the state of Minnesota introduced\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/bills\/bill.php?b=House&amp;f=HF772&amp;ssn=0&amp;y=2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">legislation<\/a>\u00a0Wednesday that would permit the state\u2019s Commissioner of Labor and Industry to amend the state\u2019s energy code to \u201cmitigate the impact of climate change,\u201d a directive that could be used to justify a ban on natural gas,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanexperiment.org\/minnesota-progressives-now-seek-to-ban-natural-gas-including-your-stove-in-residential-and-commercial-buildings\/\">according<\/a>\u00a0to the free-market Minnesota think-tank Center of the American Experiment.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-09-22\/california-moves-to-ban-natural-gas-furnaces-and-heaters-by-2030?leadSource=uverify%20wall&amp;sref=sBgRCKy6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">California<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eenews.net\/articles\/n-y-weighs-east-coasts-first-statewide-building-gas-ban\/\">New York<\/a>\u00a0are weighing statewide bans which would not only increase costs, but may not have the climate benefits advocates hope for, Dan Kish, senior fellow at the Institute for Energy Research told the DCNF.<\/p>\n<p>Ads by<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNatural gas is our cleanest fossil [fuel] and it is responsible for the U.S. reducing carbon dioxide emissions more than other country, largely because we have centuries of the stuff.\u201d Kish told the DCNF. \u201cGod blessed North America with enormous energy wealth, and our only impediment is power-hungry politicians who want to make energy more expensive and more foreign, while bossing Americans around by telling them how to heat their homes and what kind of car they can drive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Roughly half of all homes in the U.S. use natural gas for space and water heating, accounting for about 15% of all natural gas consumption in the U.S.,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/energyexplained\/natural-gas\/use-of-natural-gas.php\">according<\/a>\u00a0to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Space heating with natural gas tends to be far cheaper than all-electric systems because they are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizpacreview.com\/2023\/02\/12\/forget-stoves-theres-a-growing-movement-to-ban-new-homes-from-having-any-gas-at-all-1332418\/\">more energy<\/a>\u00a0efficient,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/evergreenhomeheatingandenergy.com\/blog\/146142#:~:text=Considering%20how%20a%20substantial%20portion,environment%20than%20electric%20resistance%20heating.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a>\u00a0to Seattle-based HVAC firm Evergreen Home Heating and Energy.<\/p>\n<p>The issue of natural gas bans gained national prominence after\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/01\/09\/biden-admin-considering-nationwide-ban-gas-stoves\/\">news broke<\/a>\u00a0that the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC) was considering banning gas stoves nationwide amid concerns that the pollutants produced by the stoves may have harmful effects. Yet, the study that these concerns are based on was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/01\/11\/electric-appliance-advocates-study-driving-ban-gas-stoves\/\">partly funded<\/a>\u00a0by a pair of activist groups that advocate for the electrification of appliances.<\/p>\n<p>The city of Eugene, Oregon, became the first in the state to institute a ban on new natural gas hookups on Monday,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/eugene-climate-and-environment-air-quality-6c08022fd6f884a493641754e7da605b\">according<\/a>\u00a0to the Associated Press. City Council members cited a desire to reduce the city\u2019s carbon footprint and eliminate health hazards as primary reasons behind the new ban, which impacts all new residential buildings that are three stories or less.<\/p>\n<p>The language in the proposed Minnesota bill mirrors\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/legislation\/bills\/2021\/S9405\">legislation<\/a>\u00a0passed in May 2022 in New York, which enabled regulators to make updates to the state energy code to promote \u201cclean energy\u201d and \u201cefficiency standards for appliances.\u201d This New York statute was justification for the state\u2019s Climate Action Council\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/climate.ny.gov\/-\/media\/project\/climate\/files\/NYS-Climate-Action-Council-Final-Scoping-Plan-2022.pdf\">December proposal<\/a>\u00a0to change the New York energy code to effectively ban gas hookups in new buildings, the Center of the American Experiment reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, the health effects are now just as important as the climate effects,\u201d Mayor Lisa Batey of Milwaukie, Oregon, said regarding a potential ban on natural gas hookups in her own city,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.koin.com\/local\/city-of-milwaukie-considering-banning-gas-hookups-in-new-homes\/\">according<\/a>\u00a0to local CBS affiliate KOIN. \u201cI am actually looking at taking my gas stove out and replacing it with an induction stove.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While many cities in the state have already issued bans on gas hookups, California legislators are moving towards a statewide ban on gas-powered furnaces and water heaters by 2030,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/jDLLh\">according<\/a>\u00a0to Bloomberg.<\/p>\n<p>On Jan. 10, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul called for the state to become the first to implement a statewide ban on natural gas hookups,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eenews.net\/articles\/n-y-weighs-east-coasts-first-statewide-building-gas-ban\/\">according<\/a>\u00a0to E&amp;E News. Under Hochul\u2019s proposed plan, new residential and commercial buildings would be all-electric by 2025 and 2030, respectively, while gas sales to existing residential and commercial buildings would be halted by 2030 and 2035, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>A group of 20 states, mostly Republican, have issued laws that ban cities from implementing restrictions on natural gas,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrdc.org\/experts\/alejandra-mejia\/gas-interests-threaten-local-authority-6-states\">according<\/a>\u00a0to the Natural Resources Defense Council, an environmental activism group. Four states have introduced, but not yet passed, similar legislation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNatural gas has been one of the principal drivers to achieving our nation\u2019s environmental and economic goals. From providing affordable energy to consumers to driving down emissions, the benefits this fuel has for our nation are tangible and impossible to ignore,\u201d Karen Harbert, president and CEO of the American Gas Association, told the DCNF. \u201cAny push to ban natural gas would raise costs to consumers, jeopardize environmental progress and deny affordable energy to underserved populations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Energy\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/02\/01\/gas-efficiency-law-ban\/\">proposed<\/a>\u00a0a rule on Feb. 1 that would more restrictive energy efficiency standards for newly manufactured gas stoves. On Dec. 14, the Biden administration hosted the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/ostp\/news-updates\/2022\/12\/14\/fact-sheet-new-innovation-agenda-will-electrify-homes-businesses-and-transportation-to-lower-energy-bills-and-achieve-climate-goals\/\">White House Electrification Summit<\/a>, where the administration announced a Home Electrification Prize through the Department of Energy to \u201cfund innovative solutions to make it easier to efficiently retrofit our homes\u201d with electrical heating to improve indoor air quality.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration has denied that it is planning to ban gas stoves,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/01\/11\/politics\/biden-gas-stoves\/index.html\">according<\/a>\u00a0to CNN. CSPC Commissioner Richard Trumka Jr. had previously said that \u201cany option was on the table,\u201d and that \u201cproducts that can\u2019t be made safe can be banned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Rep.
