San Diego County District Attorney Public Integrity Unit & Fair Political Practices Commission Reviewing Allegations<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n

October 7, 2022, San Diego \u2013 <\/b>San Diego County District Attorney\u2019s Public Integrity Unit and the California Fair Political Practices Commission as of August 29, 2022 received evidence that former San Diego City Council Member and failed Mayoral candidate Barbara Bry made an illegal campaign contribution from a corporation controlled by her and her husband, Neil Senturia, to \u201csubstantially enrich\u201d Bry\u2019s campaign for San Diego County Assessor\/ Recorder\/ County Clerk.<\/span><\/p>\n

The California Fair Political Practices Commission on September 12, 2022 issued a letter confirming there was a baseline of validity with the complaint and evidence that requires additional time to evaluate the matter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The profit-pursuing pair were referred to criminal investigation by the San Diego City Attorney\u2019s office for votes Bry made as a San Diego City Councilmember to profit her husband. Bry\u2019s defense was that they have a \u201cpre-nuptial\u201d agreement that prohibited her from receiving the potential profits.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bry\u2019s husband is also the former CEO of Deckard Technologies, in which Bry had a financial interest, that attempted to profit off the San Diego County Assessor \/ Recorder\/ County Clerk office by selling it a product where Bry and Senturia would personally profit whenever residential property taxes increased.<\/span><\/p>\n

Former Deputy District Attorney Josh Raines<\/b> commented, \u201cOnce I became aware of the potential criminal activity by Assessor candidate Barbara Bry, I investigated the matter and found the evidence to warrant a full investigation by the San Diego County District Attorney Public Integrity Unit for violation of Section 32.924 and filing false statements made under penalty of perjury.\u201d Raines continued, \u201cas a former Deputy District Attorney we look for trends in criminal behavior and I found Assessor candidate Barbara Bry has a record of questionable public disclosures and votes that brought her under the scrutiny of the City of San Diego Ethics Commission and led to a referral by the City of San Diego City Attorney to criminal investigation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Barbara Bry is running against Chief Deputy Assessor Jordan Marks, a seasoned veteran from the office for the position of San Diego County Assessor\/ Recorder\/ County Clerk. Marks has a record as the office Taxpayer Advocate of delivering \u201cunprecedented property tax savings\u201d to help San Diego County homeowners, renters, veterans, and homelessness solution non-profits.\u00a0 Marks is a Certified Property Tax Appraiser, a legal certification required to serve as an elected Assessor. He has extensive bi-partisan community support having received over 3,000 community endorsements and the support of the San Diego County Firefighters, San Diego County Deputy Sheriffs\u2019 Association, and San Diegans Against Crime.<\/span><\/p>\n
