Crime is up 13% in the city of San Diego and there have been <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KUSINews\/status\/1522245965024927745?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1522245965024927745%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.kusi.com%2Fcity-of-san-diego-is-losing-about-20-police-officers-per-month%2F\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">12 murders at city parks over the last 12 months<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. To make the situation even worse, the San Diego Police Department is losing officers, 20 per month to be exact. Many of these officers are experienced veterans.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer said that police officers have not been receiving the support they need from the government. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kusi.com\/city-of-san-diego-is-losing-about-20-police-officers-per-month\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Faulconer said in an interview with KUSI that officers,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cdon\u2019t feel supported by their elected officials, when they aren\u2019t given the tools and resources they need to be successful, unfortunately, we\u2019re going to see what we\u2019ve seen this past year in San Diego.\u201d During his tenure as Mayor, Faulconer was pressured by left-wing activists who wanted him to defund the police, even standing outside of his house shouting. However, Faulconer did not budge and instead increased the police budget. He said that local elected officials who supported the \u201cdefund the police\u201d movement are causing the exodus of officers from the force.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SDPD is faced with a big problem. In the last year, they have dropped down to less than 1,900 officers. In the fiscal year, the department has lost around 190 officers. Faulconer said that the government can look to police reform while also funding the department and making the city safe, \u201cI think you can always talk about police reform. The best practices today are not going to be the best practices five to ten years from now. But you also darn well better fund your police department.\u201d Faulconer is not the only person raising this issue. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/opinion\/commentary\/story\/2021-11-30\/san-diego-vaccine-mandate-chris-cate-sdpd-police\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">San Diego City Councilman Chris Cate wrote about the declining number of officers just three months ago.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regarding the murders at city parks, Faulconer said he was \u201cextremely concerned\u201d and said that the leaving of experienced police officers is one of the reasons there has been an increase in crime.
