{"id":8523,"date":"2022-04-04T16:14:57","date_gmt":"2022-04-04T23:14:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=8523"},"modified":"2022-04-04T15:33:49","modified_gmt":"2022-04-04T22:33:49","slug":"san-diego-leaders-help-facilitate-medical-aid-to-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=8523","title":{"rendered":"San Diego Leaders Help Facilitate Medical Aid to Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Written by William Hale<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues on, San Diego leaders are helping to facilitate medical aid to struggling Ukrainians. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kusi.com\/palomar-health-foundation-supplies-critically-needed-items-to-ukraine\/\">In an interview with KUSI<\/a>, Kristin Gaspar <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">President and CEO of Palomar Health Foundation <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">detailed her foundation\u2019s role in helping remedy this humanitarian crisis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c&#8230;we have hospitals that are not operational [in Ukraine]&#8230; we\u2019re collecting supplies that ordinarily would be thrown out\u2026 and sending those over,\u201d said Gaspar.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gaspar also noted the fundraising effort taking place simultaneously alongside the allocation of equipment and medical supplies to Ukrainian hospitals. The former San Diego County Supervisor said that the Palomar Health Foundation directs 100% of the money raised to the cause of medical aid for Ukrainians, \u201c&#8230;a lot of the time when you contribute to various fundraisers, very little goes back to the actual effort,\u201d said Gaspar, \u201cwatch where your dollars are going these days, make sure you are checking out organizations.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The US Embassy has been identifying particular hospitals and areas in need within Ukraine, enabling the PHF to send their first wave of supplies to Ukraine this coming week. \u201cIt\u2019s very important that we know the supplies will actually get there,\u201d said Gaspar, \u201cthat\u2019s a carefully coordinated effort.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gaspar emphasized the leadership of Dr. Bulkin, a Ukrainian physician at the PHF who has helped bridge the gap between American organizations and those Ukrainians in need.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis started as an internal effort between Palomar Health employees, and then it caught on beyond [the PHF]\u2026 businesses started contacting me saying \u2018hey can we be a part of this effort?\u2019 said Gaspar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you would like to give to the cause of medical aid for Ukrainians visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palomarhealthfoundation.org\/palomar-health-foundation\/how-you-can-make-a-difference\/support-ukraine\">Palomarhealthfoundation.org\/Ukraine<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Photo Cred: KQRE<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Written by William Hale As the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues on, San Diego leaders are helping to facilitate medical aid to struggling Ukrainians.
