However, AB 2017 is being obstructed in the California legislature despite support from District Attorneys, Crime Victims United, and the Peace Officers\u2019 Research Association of California.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026more measures are needed to protect our most vulnerable victims in these sad cases. Your bill will help prosecutors hold offenders in these cases accountable, while still affording the courts a fair process for protecting the rights of the accused,\u201d said the California District Attorneys Association (CDAA).<\/p>\n<p>This legal loophole enabled an unprosecuted case of sexual abuse in Mathis\u2019s district, sparking the assemblyman to introduce the bill. A friend of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/1438935391\/posts\/10228982074243433\/?d=n&amp;mibextid=BzyrbdH8OAUnKgff\">victim\u2019s mother detailed the situation in a Facebook post,<\/a> \u201cThe mother believed that her daughter&#8217;s rapist would go to jail.
