But last week, the bill could not pass through the Assembly despite a Democrat Supermajority.<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/a27.asmdc.org\/press-releases\/20220131-assemblymember-ash-kalra-author-ab-1400-ca-guaranteed-health-care-all-act\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Assemblyman Ash Kalra, the author of the bill, said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cWe did not have the votes necessary for passage and I decided the best course of action is to not put AB 1400 for a vote today\u201d. While many celebrated the death of the bill, progressives and unions who backed the bill were angered. The Progressive Caucus of the California Democrat Party <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ProgCaucusCDP\/status\/1488319775096786945\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said they would pull endorsements <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for those who defected. Now, Democrats and unions are pushing a new bill that would severely harm the California economy and make matters worse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220AB257\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Democrats are pushing AB 257<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Fast Food Accountability and Standards Recovery Act (FAST Recovery Act) would create a government council that would allow the government to take over \u201clabor negotiations\u201d with fast-food businesses. It would also allow them to, \u201cpromulgate minimum fast food restaurant employment standards, including standards on wages, working conditions, and training, and to issue, amend, and repeal any other rules and regulations, as necessary to carry out its duties.\u201d The bill is being heavily pushed by SEIU and one of the authors is now former Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez. Gonzalez resigned from the Assembly to become president of the California Labor Federation earlier this year. After Gonzalez\u2019s resignation, Assemblyman Chris Holden took over the bill.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The union\u2019s hope that with the passage of this bill, they will have half a million workers that will join unions and pay union dues. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/californiaglobe.com\/articles\/bill-to-increase-power-protections-of-fast-food-workers-passed-in-assembly\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Republican Assemblyman Kelly Seyarto said that the bill would<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cjust drive entire franchises and franchise brands away from California.\u201d California is already suffering from a mass exodus of people and companies leaving the state over regulations and taxes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If this bill doesn\u2019t pass it would be a massive victory. California has already suffered enough.
