Her last day with the State of California will be March 2.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Government Operations Agency oversees California\u2019s Human Resources Department, the Department of General Services, several technology and IT departments, CalPERS, CalSTRS and various other major departments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since her appointment by Governor Gavin Newsom in January 2020, Richardson has taken almost immediate assignment to significant roles in the state\u2019s pandemic response.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.govops.ca.gov\/departments\/executive-staff\/richardson\/\">state bio<\/a>, Richardson was responsible for the transition of the state workforce to remote work and for acquiring personal protective equipment and testing supplies. Governor Newsom also tasked her with leading California\u2019s 2020 Census effort and leading a team to address significant issues with distributing unemployment checks at the Employment Development Department.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Richardson appeared alongside Governor Newsom during events aimed at increasing COVID-19 vaccinations, including a vaccination lottery event at Universal Studios. \u201cWe have our own vaccine czar, Yolanda Richardson,\u201d Newsom said. \u201cWe\u2019re grateful for her incredible leadership and stewardship.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a statement Thursday, Newsom said Richardson was \u201can integral partner in leading the state\u2019s robust response to the pandemic and ongoing efforts to tackle its far-reaching impacts on Californians.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Richardson\u2019s resignation comes only days after that of another top-ranking official integral to California\u2019s pandemic response. On Wednesday, California\u2019s first surgeon general<a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/2022\/02\/first-california-surgeon-general-resigns-3-years-into-tenure\/\"> Dr. Nadine Burke Harris announced her resignation<\/a>.\u00a0 Also<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/news\/politics-government\/capitol-alert\/article257830953.html\"> resigning was EDD director Rita Saenz<\/a>, the third director of EDD in the last two years.
