Due to recent looting, smash and grabs, and property theft across California, Republicans and Democrats alike are pushing to repeal Prop 47, which enables these criminals to get off with minimal charges.<\/span><\/p>\n Prop 47 passed back in 2014 with a substantial 60% support for \u201cThe Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act.\u201d It intended to quell imprisonment of minorities for minor thefts by raising the felony theft amount from $400 to $950. Unfortunately as of late, the bill has been taken advantage of by anyone who possesses zero moral character and a baseball bat.<\/span><\/p>\n Thousands of dollars in merchandise from every type of retail has been stolen, including jewelry, sport gear, expensive clothing, shoe wear, and several others. Very little has been done to combat these problems, to the point where stores have relocated, or drastically changed their policies as they live in fear of break-ins and thefts.<\/span><\/p>\n The worst part of it all, is many such events take place in broad daylight, with several suspects each being involved.<\/span><\/p>\n With all this in mind, Republican Assemblyman Kevin Kiley has spearheaded a repeal for Prop 47, which would theoretically restore order by returning the state to its former policy of a $400 limit. Kiley is working alongside James Gallagher\u2014another Republican Assemblyman for Yuba City\u2014to push the bill to fruition, but it would require the support of our infamous governor, then be voted on by the population afterwards.<\/span><\/p>\n Interestingly however, Kiley and Gallagher aren\u2019t the only two working on such a proposal.
