{"id":7733,"date":"2021-12-09T15:06:15","date_gmt":"2021-12-09T22:06:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=7733"},"modified":"2021-12-08T15:06:40","modified_gmt":"2021-12-08T22:06:40","slug":"san-francisco-restaurant-apologizes-after-backlash-for-denying-service-to-police-officers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=7733","title":{"rendered":"San Francisco Restaurant Apologizes After Backlash for Denying Service to Police Officers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Written by Vincent Cain<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The owners of an SF restaurant apologized on Sunday to Officers for asking them to leave because the Officers\u2019 guns made the employees uncomfortable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The owners of the restaurant, Rachel Sillcocks and Kristina Liedags Compton, said in a statement that was posted on social media that \u201cthese are stressful times, and we handled this badly.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before this, the restaurant posted an explanation on their Instagram on Saturday that read: \u201cThe restaurant is a safe space. The presence of the officers\u2019 weapons in the restaurant made us feel uncomfortable. We respect the San Francisco Police Department and are grateful for the work they do. We welcome them into the restaurant when they are off duty, out of uniform, and without their weapons.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Backlash followed soon after on social media, including a response from the San Francisco police chief William Scott, who said his department \u201cstands for safety with respect, even when it means respecting wishes that our officers and I find discouraging and personally disappointing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The restaurant owners backtracked on Sunday with their apology, stating, \u201cWe made a mistake and apologize for the unfortunate incident on Friday when we asked members of the San Francisco Police Department to leave our restaurant,\u201d said Sillcocks and Liedags Compton. \u201cWe are grateful to all members of the force who work hard to keep us safe, especially during these challenging times.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The whole incident drew comments from both sides of the issue. Some were upset at the incident, calling it discriminatory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One poster wrote, \u201cHow disrespectful and entitled of the business to treat people who risk their lives to protect us. It\u2019s a bit heartbreaking actually.\u201d Local resident John Perri said, &#8221; \u201cSo bummed this happened in my neighborhood. Never had the food at this new restaurant.
