{"id":7573,"date":"2021-11-17T14:28:22","date_gmt":"2021-11-17T21:28:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=7573"},"modified":"2021-11-17T14:28:22","modified_gmt":"2021-11-17T21:28:22","slug":"white-house-sticks-with-nominee-saule-omarova-who-was-arrested-in-1995-for-retail-theft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sandiegonewsdesk.com\/?p=7573","title":{"rendered":"White House Sticks With Nominee Saule Omarova, Who Was Arrested in 1995 for Retail Theft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Written by Vincent Cain<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">President Biden\u2019s nominee to Comptroller of the Currency was arrested in 1995 for \u201cretail theft.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a background check, Omarova was arrested in Madison, Wisconsin, on June 2, 1995, and was charged with a misdemeanor. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The background check also notes that\u00a0 Omarova had a delayed prosecution in January 1996 for the charge, which was later dropped through Wisconsin\u2019s first offender program.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;To be clear, Saule has been fully transparent about this incident her entire career, including to the Senate, in applications, and when she worked at the Treasury Department during the Bush Administration,&#8221; a spokesperson for the White House said. &#8220;This case was ultimately dismissed in January 1996 \u2013 more than 25 years ago \u2013 and was the result of a misunderstanding and confusing situation.&#8221; The same spokesperson then claimed that this part of a giant conspiracy to discredit Omarova, &#8221; It\u2019s sad that a far-right partisan group with a pattern of engaging in tawdry behavior would partner with Fox News to smear the name of a qualified nominee seeking to serve her country&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Senate staffer informed on the matter verified that the charge was disclosed to the Senate Banking Committee. Her hearing before the committee is scheduled for this Thursday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Republicans in the Senate Banking Committee are pushing back forcefully against Biden\u2019s latest controversial nominee, focusing on Omarova\u2019s history writing about Marxism along with<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/treasury-saule-omarova-energy-industries-bankrupt\"> her comments about the energy sector and climate change.\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sen.
