Tuesday night was a great night for Republicans. We won the governor\u2019s race in Virginia, narrowly lost the governor\u2019s race in deep-blue New Jersey (which could go to recount), defeated the \u201cDefund the Police\u201d measure in Minneapolis, and thwarted a socialist\u2019s mayoral prospects in Buffalo thanks to a write-in campaign. But two days later, this is the race that should have Democrats paralyzed with fear.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, New Jersey called a State Senate race for the Republican challenger, Edward Durr, defeating the Democrat incumbent. You may think that a simple state office election is nothing to boast over, but there\u2019s always more than meets the eye.<\/p>\n
For one, Durr only spent $153 on his primary campaign and $5,000 on his general election, proving that money can\u2019t buy you votes.\u00a0 67 of the 153 dollars were spent at Dunkin Donuts. Another important aspect is that Durr is a commercial furniture truck driver who shot his campaign video on an iPhone. But the most important fact here is his opponent.<\/p>\n
Edward Durr, a truck driver, defeated the longest-serving state senator in New Jersey history and Senate President Steve Sweeney! Let me say that again; a no-name Republican ousted the most prominent politician in New Jersey while underspending him!<\/p>\n
This is a turning point for Republicans, not just because voters soundly rejected radical leftism, but this also reveals the new face of the Republican party. As mentioned earlier, Durr is a truck driver who said on his website, \u201cI have lived here all my life. I have been a commercial truck driver for the last 25 years. I consider myself to be \u2018blue-collar’.\u201d<\/p>\n
Durr\u2019s victory illustrated how Republicans are the new party of the commoner. Democrats, meanwhile, profess their wish to \u201ctax the rich\u201d while schmoozing with high-profile celebrities and $30,000 events (I\u2019m looking at you, AOC). Republicans now stand for the people while Dems represent the wealthy elite.<\/p>\n
