San Diego based Cubic Corporation has decided to update its headquarters. Being one of the oldest publicly traded companies in San Diego, it has decided to consolidate its many small businesses, dealing with defense and public transit fare technologies, to one business known as One Cubic.<\/span><\/p>\n

The One Cubic operation started with implementing the same software system across all businesses. It later shifted to sharing engineering ideas to all product lines. However, as of Tuesday, the corporation has made the most significant move to date: two new headquarters buildings on their Kearney Mesa property. With a $100 million price tag, the public transit and defense businesses will now be located in the same building.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cubic Corporation was founded about 60 years ago and had about 1,500 San Diego workers with an additional 6,000 employees internationally. While the headquarters could have been relocated elsewhere, Cubic Corporations chose to stay in Kearney Mesa to lower costs but also retain its current employees.<\/span><\/p>\n

To consolidate the businesses, Cubic Corporations sold its other Kearney Mesa property which housed the Cubic Transportation Systems division. Sold to Texas-based Lincoln Property Company, Cubic Corporations, however, will continue to use the property until the end of 2020 when the new headquarters are scheduled to be done.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cisterra Development, based in San Diego, will be responsible for the construction of the brand-new headquarters. The 125,000-square-foot, three-story buildings will be LEED Silver-certified for energy efficiency, which will include solar panels in the parking lots and charging stations for electric cars. Lastly, the modern headquarters will consist of basketball courts and common areas for the employees to use.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
