Biden was frustrated about Senate Republicans since they were blocking Democrats from passing a debt limit increase. President Joe Biden said that he could not promise that the federal government will not default on debt payments this month.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can’t believe that will be the end result because the consequence is so dire,\u201d Biden said. \u201cI don’t believe that. But can I guarantee it? If I could, I would, but I can’t.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cRepublicans say they will not do their part to avoid this needless calamity,\u201d Biden said during his speech. \u201cSo be it. But they need to stop playing Russian roulette with the U.S. economy. Let the Democrats vote to raise the debt ceiling this week, without obstruction or further delays.\u201d<\/p>\n
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell spoke on the GOP’s position regarding the debt ceiling, “Republicans’ position is simple. We have no list of demands. For two and a half months, we have simply warned that since your party wishes to govern alone, it must handle the debt limit alone as well,” McConnell explained.<\/p>\n
Based on what McConnell said, they gave notice to\u00a0 Democrats about the issue nearly three months ago and they started worrying about it just now. \u201cYour lieutenants in Congress must understand that you do not want your unified Democratic government to sleepwalk toward an avoidable catastrophe when they have had nearly three months’ notice to do their job,” McConnell wrote.<\/p>\n
