Latin America is experiencing tragedies dispersed throughout the region. Nicaragua is battling increased repression, especially in the build up of their 2022 elections. Cuba was recently shook with violent crackdowns after protests that called for an end of their communist regime. And Haiti is coping with the assassination of their president, and the aftermath of a tropical storm and earthquake that have killed thousands.
In the wake of all these tragic events, many people have dispersed throughout North America, seeking refuge by travelling to Mexico and eventually making their way to America\u2019s southern border. Democrats and Republicans alike are criticizing Joe Biden\u2019s weak border policy. Moderate Democrats are frustrated that Biden hasn\u2019t done enough to deter migrants from making the trek to the U.S.-Mexico border and Republicans who contend the administration\u2019s border policies have contributed to a surge in illegal border crossings, there is no political safe harbor on the left or the right for Biden.
Recently, Biden\u2019s border troubles have been on full display as images made headlines depicting thousands of mostly Haitian migrants at a makeshift camp under an international bridge in Del Rio, Texas. Democrats and Republicans are growing irritated over Biden\u2019s handling of both the humanitarian crises in the region and the volatile politics surrounding migration along the U.S. southern border.
While moderates and liberals have long expressed support for Biden\u2019s vision to create a fair and humane immigration system after four years of former President Donald Trump\u2019s restrictive policies, many agree \u2014 albeit for different reasons \u2014 that Biden\u2019s current strategy isn\u2019t working.
