CNN is being criticized for its coverage of the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party and for its coverage of Chinese President Xi Jingping. CNN tweeted out, “The Chinese Communist Party is about to turn 100 but Xi will be the real star,\u201d The tweet included an article which talked about the upcoming celebration of the 100 year anniversary.”It’s likely that large parts of the day’s events will focus on Xi, arguably the country’s most powerful leader since Mao, and his vision for the country,” CNN\u2019s Ben Westcott wrote in the attached article.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The tweet was received poorly by many including Republican pundits and politicians who criticized the tweet for glorifying the Chinese Communist Party which has killed over 100 million people during its reign, including its cover-up of the Coronavirus. Colorado Republican Congressman Ken Buck tweeted, “Not sure what there is to celebrate. In the last 100 years, the CCP has murdered and stolen from millions of people. Xi is committing genocide in Xinjiang, annihilating One Country Two Systems in Hong Kong, and threatening war in Taiwan, to name a few of Xi’s crimes,” Conservative commentator and pundit Dinesh D\u2019Souza tweeted out, \u201cCan this be distinguished in any way from the kind of propaganda the CCP itself might put out?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This is not the first time that CNN has come under fire for its coverage of China and the CCP. In April, CNN ran an article on the China People\u2019s Liberation Army (PLA) having a stake in the spread of coronavirus in a branch of its military, with the headline reading, “China’s PLA Navy is controlling coronavirus and aircraft carrier’s deployment proves it, report says. But that report came from the Global Times, a known Chinese-state-run media outlet.
