Tuesday Morning, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) announced ten new Democratic seats which will be targeted by the Committee in the 2022 midterms. Three of the newly targeted seats reside in the Golden State: CA-07, CA-16, and CA-36. The additional seats will bring California to the second most targeted state by the NRCC with seven seats in total, following close behind New York’s eight seats.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With the 2020 cycle ending poorly for Democrats in California with three strong Democrat-held seats flipping red, and recall support only growing stronger, things are looking up for the GOP in California. With all three of these newly targeted seats being very close races in 2018, this cycle is going to be one to remember.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Democrat resources are going to be spread extremely thin this year as they are met by a surge of Republican voters looking to finally have their voices heard in California, we saw a glimpse of this in 2020 and it is not slowing down going into 2022. With a track record of underperformance in mid-terms, the Democrats are going to be on the ropes in California for the second election cycle in a row. Furthermore, after the 2020 census results were finalized it was announced that for the first time in the state’s history, California is going to lose a congressional seat.<\/p>\n

As California loses a seat it is likely to result in a race between two incumbents in two years. District maps that will determine the congressional lines, must be finalized and presented to the CA Secretary of State by Feb. of 2022 after being completed by an independent redistricting commission.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
