Los Angeles County District Attorney Gordon Gasc\u00f3n is no exception, as he removed himself this week from the California District Attorneys Association, citing the group\u2019s all-White board as his main reason for resigning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;This is the leadership that sets the direction for an organization of elected prosecutors, all of whom disproportionately prosecute communities of color at a time when the nation is facing a reckoning over systemic racism, and in a state with a plurality of minorities no less,&#8221; Gasc\u00f3n stated. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, Gasc\u00f3n is trying to eliminate sentencing enhancements, which would allow criminals to serve less time for their crimes. Los Angeles has seen an <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/lapd-assets.lapdonline.org\/assets\/pdf\/cityprof.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">increase<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the number of homicides and other <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2020-11-23\/los-angeles-increase-homicides-shootings-crime\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">violent crimes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. So if Gasc\u00f3n truly cared about racial inequality, he would prioritize the victims of these crimes instead of favoring the criminals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, his whole act is a publicity stunt, as El Dorado County District Attorney and President of the CDAA Vern Pierson points out Gasc\u00f3n is not a recent member of the CDAA. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Mr. Gasc\u00f3n cannot resign because he has not been a member of CDAA since October 2019 when he quit his job as DA of San Francisco,&#8221; Pierson said in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.courts.ca.gov\/news\/gascon-says-he-quit-da-association-they-say-he-wasnt-member\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">statement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pierson also pointed out <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gasc\u00f3n\u2019s hypocrisy on ethnic issues, as he <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ran against the first sitting female African American<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> District Attorney in LA, Jackie Lacey. Apparently, race does not matter to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gasc\u00f3n <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when it comes to his own benefit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier in February <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gasc\u00f3n was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/abc7.com\/10328092\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sued<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by his own deputy DA<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Jon Hitami, for defaming him, referring to Hitami as an \u201cinternal terrorist\u201d for disagreeing with his proposed reforms. Gasc\u00f3n also referred to his deputy DA as \u201cdelusional\u201d and \u201cunfit\u201d for the deputy position.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When it comes to double standards, Democrats like Gasc\u00f3n know no limits. In no circumstance would it be acceptable for anyone to resign from a group because they are \u201call-Black\u201d or \u201call-Asian\u201d because that is inherently racist. Leaving a group for being \u201call-White\u201d does not change that fact. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gasc\u00f3n clearly does not understand the definition of racism, since he thinks being discriminatory towards a majority is an act of equality. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As an elected official who has the power to put people in prison for life, Gasc\u00f3n has proven that he cannot be trusted to do his job with impartiality and free from bias. Someone who is focused on race over the law should not have the power to prosecute anyone.
